The United States military is playing a major but "secret" role in the Yemen Government's suppresion of the Al Qaeda-associated insurgency on its northern border with Saudi Arabia. "The operations, approved by President Obama and begun six weeks ago, involve several dozen troops from the U.S. military's clandestine Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), whose main mission is tracking and killing suspected terrorists." American special forces are not involved on the ground but provide all other forms of logistical and intelligence support.
