14May2008 Washington pledges to support Lebanese army (Grd)

The U.S. Administration has said it will lend its support to the Lebanese army to disarm Hezbollah in Lebanon, accusing Hezbollah of "destabilising the country and turning against the Lebanese people". Saudi Arabia and other predominantly Sunni Gulf Arab states are concerned at Iran's support for Hezbollah in Lebanon.
