The classical music concert — with the Artis Piano Quartet performing works by Mozart, Brahms and Paul Juon — and in front of an audience comprising both men and women took place in a 500-seat government-run cultural center in Riyadh. The rarity of any public concerts, the nature of the audience and the fact that the event had governmental support prompted some speculation that Saudi Arabia was moving more quickly than mnay had predicted towards a more open society.
