Iran is waging a proxy war with the United States in Iraq, Afghanistan and Gaza, according to Ryan C. Crocke, United States ambassador to Iraq said Friday. In this war, "the Arabs are missing in action."
"He said that while Saudi Arabia had helped in American attempts to rein in the flow of foreign fighters into Iraq, Sunni governments in the Middle East needed to establish more of a diplomatic presence in Iraq." President Bush is said to believe such diplomatic missions would help to legitimise the Iraq government.. Mr Crocker complained that Saudi Arabia had still not set up an embassy in Iraq.
