Yakin Erturk, the United Nations' human rights expert on violence against women has issued a statement calling on the Kingdom to adopt laws protecting women and according them the same rights as stipulated under international law. She criticised the system of male guardianship of women as restrictive and damaging to the hmuan rights of women.
