Riyadh, 9 December, 2005

The British Minister of State at the Foreign Office, Dr. Kim Howells has said the presidency of the European Union (EU) supported the call by Muslim leaders at the Third Extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), hosted in Makkah city by Saudi Arabia, for a forward-looking vision for the Muslim world.

"The international community stands with them in their staunch rejection of those who distort the noble faith of Islam. As EU presidency, we join them in celebrating the values of Islamic civilization," he said in a press statement, circulated yesterday by the British Embassy in Riyadh.

"We share their unequivocal condemnation of terrorism and their determination to combat it," Dr. Howells said in the statement.
