04Dec2005 World Media To Cover Islamic Summit

Jeddah, 4 December, 2005

Renowned International media will take part in covering the 3rd Extraordinary Islamic summit in Makkah this week, officials said.

Dr. Salih Alnamlah, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Information for Foreign Information, told the Saudi Press Agency that in addition to several Arab satellite channels, a number of international television channels, including CNN, CBS, Turkish TRT, Malaysian TV and Turkish 7 will be covering the event.

In a statement following a tour of the Information Center at the Jeddah-based Conferences Palace, Alnamlah said more than 150 media representatives from all over the world started to arrive in Jeddah in the last two days to get ready for the media coverage.

He noted that the Ministry of Culture and Information has installed special centers for TV transmission at the Conferences Palace and other information centers to cover the events of the summit.

He drew the attention that the Saudi broadcasting stations, television, news agency and press will take part in covering the activities of the conference.

Dr. Alnamlah said the information center in Makkah, which accommodates more that 30 domestic and international telephone lines in addition to internet equipped with more than 25 computers available free of charge for the media, has put its capabilities at the disposal of visiting journalists and media representatives.

The Makkah center has also been equipped with facsimile, photocopiers, scanners, editing desks, TV photo section, broadcasting studios etc.

The Ministry of Culture and Information has also allocated publications pavilion including more than one thousand books in several languages to highlight the status of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the service of the Arab and Muslim nations, particularly in the field of expanding the two Holy Mosques.
