The Syrian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Abdullah Al-Dardary praised the Saudi role in assisting Syria to reach an agreement with the U.N. Chief Investigator, Detlev Mehlis, investigating the murder of Lebanon's former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.
Speaking to reporters in London today, Al-Dardary said Saudi Arabia has used its good offices to help strike a satisfactory deal between Syria and Mehlis.
The agreement has put the investigation on track as a legal procedure between the United Nations and individuals, rather than between the UN and Syria's state or political system, he said, adding that: "We do appreciate that role and think it is very helpful."
