27Nov2005 King Abdullah Sends Message To Syrian President

Riyadh, 27 November, 2005

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has sent a message to Syria's President Bashar Al-Assad.

The message was delivered to the Syrian President during his meeting with Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Secretary General of National Security Council here today.

The meeting was attended by Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister, Walid Al-Mualim.

In a press statement following the meeting, Prince Bandar pointed out that he conveyed a message from King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to the Syrian President dealing with the exchange of opinions and consultations to serve the interests of Syrian and Saudi peoples in particular and the Arab nation in General.

He noted that the Monarch congratulated the President on his courageous and wise decision taken two days ago, which has had important reflections to serve the interests of the Arab nation and the Syrian people and their safety.

Since the era of the late King Abdulaziz, mercy be upon his soul, the Kingdom has a special love for the Syrian people and their leadership, consequently the Kingdom is concerned with their safety and always seeks for the protection of the interests of people, the Prince said.

Prince Bandar bin Sultan added that the region is passing critical circumstances and needs a cautious and wise behavior along with courage, indicating that his visit to Damascus today and the message conveyed to the Syrian President are a continuation of the Monarch's policy to consult with leaders of the Arab nation.
