Saudi Arabia was today re-elected as member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during elections at the 24th general assembly of IMO in London.
To mark the occasion, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al'ohaly, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Transportation Affairs, who led the Kingdom's delegation to the conference, said the Kingdom was re-elected a member of the 40-seat IMO governing body for a two-year term that commences in January 2006.
He reminded that the Kingdom was elected for the second time in a row since joining the IMO in 1969.
Al'ohaly highlighted the role the Kingdom was playing in the sea transport safety and maritime environment protection, through its activities in IMO's maritime safety and legal committees.
He paid tribute to the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Saudi Embassy in London that culminated in this achievement.
