15Nov2005 Three Saudi POWs Missing During Gulf War Confirmed Dead

Three Saudi prisoners of war missing in Kuwait since the war to liberate Kuwait in 1990/91 were now confirmed dead, a Saudi senior official announced today.

In a statement following the meeting of the tripartite committee, which comprises representatives of the Iraqi side, the Kuwaiti side and alliance countries, in addition to the International Red Cross, Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohammed bin Saud Alkabeer, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and Chairman of the International Organizations Department, said the files of the three Saudi prisoners of war, presumed missing since the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq's former regime, were now confirmed dead after having unearthed their remains in cemeteries in Iraq.

He quoted the committee as officially announcing that accordingly the files of the three were closed, bringing to 17 the number of files still open. He put the number of Saudi prisoners missing in Iraq, before the recent announcements, as 24.
