The six member states of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council, will observe, together with other countries, the International Day for Combating Diabetes, which falls on Monday, 14 November.
The day will be observed under the title of 'Diabetes and Kidney Diseases'.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Dr Tawfiq Khoja, the Director General of the Executive Bureau for the Council of the GCC Health Ministers, said that the World Health Organization (WHO) expects that the number of diabetics will double by 2025, to reach about 300 million in the world.
He noted that the rate of diabetics in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Bahrain has surpassed 10 percent of the total population.
The GCC is made up of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
