09Nov2005 Prince Ahmad Highlights Saudi-Pakistani Relations

Islamabad, 9 November, 2005

Prince Ahmad bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Interior Minister, said his recent visit to Pakistan has embodied the great attention given by the Saudi government and people to Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Prince Ahmad hailed the efforts exerted by the Pakistani government to assist victims of the earthquake which recently hit Pakistan.

He noted that the Saudi government had so far extended more than SR1 billion worth of assistance to victims of the earthquake, adding that more relief assistance will soon be sent to Pakistan.

"Pakistan has a special place in the hearts of the Saudis", he said.

Meanwhile, Prince Ahmad denied that he had reviewed with the Pakistani Interior Minister issues pertaining to combating terrorism.

He noted that combating drugs and organized crime was a matter of cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Prince Ahmad pointed out that Pakistan had nothing to do with any form of terrorism.

Highlighting the existing cooperation between the Kingdom and Pakistan regarding Hajj issues, Prince Ahmad noted that no epidemic diseases were so far reported in Pakistan.

On his part, the Pakistani Interior Minister, Eftab Ahmad, praised the assistance extended by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to victims of the earthquake, and said the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had topped the list of countries which had so far helped victims of the earthquake.

The Minister lauded the significant role being play by the Saudi field hospital in extending medical services to victims of the earthquake.

He highlighted the existing distinguished Saudi-Pakistani relations.
