25Oct2005 Ministry Of Agriculture Bans Import Of Birds And Eggs

Riyadh, 25 October, 2005

In accordance with the warning letters issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ministry of Agriculture has temporarily banned the import of live birds and incubating eggs from Turkey and Romania because of the bird flu until the two countries are clear of the disease.

The Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Animal Resources Affairs Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Sheihah said that the Ministry has also temporarily banned live birds and incubating eggs from Iran because of an unknown epidemic which has resulted in the death of a large number of wild birds.
