23Oct2005 Saudi Ministry Of Health Allocates SR25m For Bird Flu Medicine

Riyadh, 23 October, 2005

As a first stage, the Saudi Ministry of Health has allocated SR25 million to buy medicine which can be used for treatment and protection from the bird flu disease. This is part of a comprehensive and national plan for facing and controlling this disease if it occurs.

Assistant Undersecretary of Preventive Medicine at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Yaqoob Yosef Al-Mazroa' stated that in implementing the instructions of the Minister of Health, Dr. Hamad bin Abdullah Al-mane', the Ministry has taken all necessary measures to face this disease by setting a comprehensive and national plan in order to deal with the flu.

Dr. Yaqoob Al-Mazroa' denied the existence of suspected cases infected with bird flu in the Kingdom.

He also said that there is coordination with other sectors, such as the agricultural sector in this regard.

He also stated that the National Commission is taking some measures to face this disease, such as testing and taking samples from migrating birds in order to ensure that they are not infected with the bird flu virus.
