17Oct2005 Saudi Arabia Observes International Food Day

Riyadh, 17 October, 2005

The International Food Day has been observed throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

This year it is observed under the title of "Agriculture and Dialogue of Cultures: Our Joint Heritage".

A special ceremony was organized here Sunday evening by the Ministry of Agriculture in this context. It was attended by the Director General of the General Organization of Grain Silos and Flour Mills, Saleh Al-Suleiman.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abdullah Wahbi, the Coordinator of the Program of FAO in the Kingdom, said the FAO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, is currently implementing seven development projects in various regions of the Kingdom.

On his part, Dr Fahd Balghunaim, the Minister of Agriculture, said the Saudi Government has adopted a sound agricultural and economic policy which has contributed to the increase of the productive capacity and generating job opportunities.
