The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held a symposium here today to mark the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with Japan.
Speaking to the gathering, the Saudi ambassador to Japan, Faisal bin Hasan Tirad, said women make up half the population.
He cited the late King Abdulaziz's instructions that female Muslims should be taken care of.
Hundred percent of Saudi girls are educated at elementary level, and half of the five million Saudi students are females.
He said women in Saudi Arabia have assumed prestigious posts, citing Thuraya bint Obeid, the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations for Population Affairs.
