22Jun2005 Saudi Arabia Urges Global Cooperation in Combating Terrorism

Singapore, 22 June 2005

A Saudi official, attending the Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED) session in Singapore, has stressed that combating terrorism should be the responsibility of all countries and called for global cooperation in this sensitive sphere.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohammad bin Saud Al-Kabir, the Under Secretary and Acting Deputy Minister for Political Affairs, the Director General of International Organizations and the Head of the Saudi Delegation to the Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED) session, said the Kingdom's participation in the session has been in response to an invitation extended to it by the Government in Singapore.

"Moreover, there are several important issues shared by the Middle East and Asia such as terrorism," he noted.

He recalled that the proposal of Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, to establish an international center for combating terrorism under the United Nations auspices was passed to the Secretary General of the United Nations.

He described the visit of Singapore Prime Minister, Sellapan Rama Nathan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as "successful and fruitful."
