Riyadh, 4 Feb 2005

The Kingdom's hosting of the International Counter-Terrorism Conference in Riyadh, is the consumation of its intensive efforts in fighting all forms of terror at national, regional and international arenas to eliminate this phenomenon.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had the foresight to urge the international community to combat terrorism and sided with all peace-loving countries to annihilate terror. This was evident from a joint address of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, which was directed to pilgrims of this year's Hajj. In this address, the Saudi Leadership called for holding this International Counter-Terrorism Conference in Riyadh and invited the anti-terrorism experts and a number of people from the peace-loving countries.

The convening of this important conference is part of the Kingdom's continuous efforts to fight this dangerous phenomenon. The entire world has been hit by terrorism and the Kingdom has confronted it locally and condemned it globally as King Fahd has confirmed in his speech at the beginning of fourth year of the third period of the Shoura (Consultative) Council.

The Kingdom signed the Arab agreement of combating terrorism, which was the most prominent Arab effort in this field, and the treaty of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) as well as the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council's agreement and nine other international treaties and agreements.

The Kingdom is strictly monitoring the regulations of charity establishments and organizations to check the transfer of money to any illegal organization and has approved subjects about terrorism in its educational curriculums in addition to formulating regulations to punish terrorists.
