Saudi Arabia is to train a group of counter-terrorism officers from Taiwan in methods of responding to terrorist attacks, negotiating with hostage-takers and crisis management.
Prince Naif Arab University for Security Sciences in Riyadh will hold a training session in counter terrorism in cooperation with the Bureau of Investigation at the Taiwanese Ministry of Justice. The three-week course will commence tomorrow and continue until 22 December.
Dr Abdul Aziz Al-Ghamdi, University Chairman, said that the selection of Prince Naif Arab University by a security establishment of international standing pays testimony to the high academic and scientific standards and levels of training achieved by the University.
Dr Al-Ghamdi said that the course is designed to help trainees gain skills in responding to terrorist acts, negotiations with hostage-takers and crisis management. Participants will also be introduced to the role of Islam in combating terrorism and be briefed on the activities of the University and its experience in the fight to combat terrorism. They will also be briefed on efforts of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in combating terrorism and the Kingdom’s experience in this regard.
Dr Al-Ghamdi said that the course stresses the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, especially electronic and cyberspace terrorism. The course covers various kinds of terrorism, including explosives and gunfire, biological and chemical terrorism. The role of the media in fighting terrorism will also be highlighted.
