Chairman of the General Committee for Municipal Elections, Prince Mansour bin Miteb, will answer questions on forthcoming municipal elections from today until 14 December at the Saudi Election website (www.saudielection.com).
The website, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, was officially launched on 22 November in Riyadh. The website was developed by a group of Saudi businessmen led by Turki Faisal Al-Rasheed, and has received an average of 18,887 hits per day, with an impressive 566,632 hits for the month of November.
The site, which is available in both Arabic and English versions, is educational and is a forum for exchange of views and information. There is a member’s forum section where registered users can post articles and comments, a news section, a section on election regulations, and a section on profiles and pictures of the various candidates.
Al-Rasheed said in a phone interview from Riyadh that he was very pleased with the public’s response to the website. “The government is happy with our efforts and regards the website as a support for their efforts to educate Saudis about elections,” he told Arab News.
The online question and answer session with Prince Mansour will only be available to registered users, Al-Rasheed noted, pointing out that registration is free.
Discussion forums with candidates will also be hosted by the website, when candidates are registered.
