A senior Foreign Ministry official said that forty-three countries and several international organizations will attend the first international anti-terrorism conference in Riyadh from 5 – 8 February.
“We have invited all countries that have suffered terrorism to the conference and all have agreed to take part,” said Prince Turki bin Mohammad, Assistant Under Secretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported.
The Conference will provide a forum for exchanging information and experience and fostering cooperation in the fight to combat terrorism. It will also discuss measures to tackle money laundering and drugs and arms smuggling.
Prince Turki bin Mohammad said that Israel’s obstinacy in dealing with the Palestinian issue and the international community’s apathy in this regard have contributed to the spread of violence and terrorism in the Middle East.
He said that the international community had begun to recognise Saudi Arabia’s firm stance against terrorism and had commended its efforts in combating terrorism at both national and international levels.
Assistant Foreign Minister Nizar Madani said that the Anti-Terrorism Conference would contribute to “eradicating the roots and causes of this dangerous phenomenon.”
