The first meeting for Saudi intellectuals began its deliberations on Saturday.
Addressing the inaugural session, Secretary General of the Consultative Commission for Culture Mohammed Riza Nasrallah said that participants of the meeting include specialists from various areas of expertise. The meeting’s first session discussed libraries and publishing industry, and was chaired by Dr Abbas Tashkandi.
Dr Ahmad Al-Dubeib, a member of the Consultative Commission for Culture, delivered a paper on public libraries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Abdullah Abdel-Majed delivered a paper on the publishing industry. Dr Abdul Aziz Al-Obeikan delivered a paper on cultural integration. Abdul Aziz Al-Kassem delivered a paper on the legislative infrastructure for Saudi cultural development.
The second session of the meeting, chaired by Head of Riyadh Literary Club Dr Mohammed Al-Rabee covered topics related to industrialization in the fields of information and culture. Papers delivered at the second session included that delivered by Iman Al-Quweifili, a journalist, on proposals pertaining to the establishment of cultural periodicals.
A further session was held under the title “Cultural Activities and Festivals,” in which papers focused on the Kingdom’s National Festival for Heritage and Culture, the history of the Arabian Peninsula, Saudi theatre, cultural gatherings and festivals and the role of arts in Saudi Arabia.
A session was then held under the title “The Cultural Role of Women,” which included papers on related issues.
