Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz on Monday chaired the Cabinet’s weekly meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah.
King Fahd briefed the Cabinet on recent talks and consultations held with leaders and envoys of other countries, which focused on developments in Arab and international arenas, particularly the occupied Palestinian territories and Iraq.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the session, the Minister of Social Affairs and Acting Minister of Culture and Information Dr Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Namla said that the Cabinet reiterated the Kingdom’s call for the international community to confront Israel’s policies of aggression against the Palestinian people, violation of laws of international legitimacy, and continuation in developing nuclear weapons, which threaten a further deterioration of security and stability in the region. The Cabinet stressed the importance of implementing the decision of the International Court of Justice on the segregation wall.
On the situation in Iraq, the Cabinet affirmed that Iraq’s stability depends on the cooperation of all parties and effective participation of the Iraqi people and the United Nations to restore security in the country.
The Acting Minister of Culture and Information said that the Cabinet reviewed domestic items on the agenda, including the conservation of water and electricity during summer.
The Cabinet approved an amendment of the Saudi-Qatari agreement on air transportation services. Under the amendment, “aviation authorities” mentioned in the agreement are identified as the Kingdom’s General Aviation Corporation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatari General Aviation Corporation.
The Minister of Finance or his deputy was authorized to sign a Saudi-Iranian draft agreement for mutual administrative cooperation and assistance on customs issues.
The Cabinet approved a memorandum of understanding for scientific and technological cooperation between King Abdul Aziz City for Sciences and Technology and the Science Academy of the Czech Republic.
The Cabinet approved the appointment of members of the Health Services Council for three-year terms. The Cabinet also approved some 14th grade appointments at various government agencies.
