Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health for Preventive Medicine Dr Yaqoub Al-Mazroa’ confirmed that twenty-four cases of Maltese fever were registered in A’moud village, Jazan Region, between 15 Moharram and 15 Rabie Al-Awwal, 1425H.
Dr Al-Mazroa’ explained that Maltese fever is a bacterial disease which infects animals and is transmitted to humans through non-boiled milk, its by-products and direct contact with the blood of infected animals.
Dr Al-Mazroa said that all cases of the fever were treated in Beash General Hospital. He noted the determined cooperation the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture to take all necessary measures to prevent spread of the fever.
