11Jul2004 Intel sees great opportunities for Saudi IT sector

Jeddah, 11th July 2004

Aysegul Ildeniz, Intel’s recently appointed Middle East Regional Director, said that “Saudi Arabia is one of the major countries both for market size and in the terms of the vision we have of establishing ourselves in the Middle East.”

“The Kingdom is one of the top four most important countries out of the 80 for which I am responsible in the region,” said Ildeniz, who is on her first visit to the Kingdom. “I am here to talk with our customers and meet industry leaders to enhance my understanding of the Kingdom’s Information Technology industry. With half the Saudi population under the age of twenty-two, any investment by Intel in developing the IT sector in this country over the forthcoming ten to fifteen years will be recouped as return on investment,” she told Arab News. She said that the Saudi IT market will be worth $2.5 billion, which is a sizeable market.

The highest selling area in Saudi Arabia is laptops, with a market share of almost 20% compared with an average 5% in emerging markets, which suggests that Saudis are embracing IT and are willing to pay for new technology.
