10Jul2004 Imam of Makkah’s Grand Mosque urges militants to surrender and repent

Makkah, 10th July 2004

Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah Sheikh Saud Al-Sheraim urged militants to surrender under the month-long amnesty announced by the Saudi government in late June.

In his Friday sermon addressing hundreds of thousands of worshippers, Sheikh Saud Al-Sheraim urged militants to come out of hiding and take the opportunity to correct their ways and return to the path of righteousness.

Al-Sheraim stressed the need for Muslims to seek advice in searching for true Islam, in cooperation and discussion. He condemned terrorist attacks as evil attempts to destroy lives and kill and intimidate innocent people. “Such acts must never be ignored or justified but confronted and combated by all possible means. No justification can ever be accepted for such acts. The only victors are the enemies seeking to rejoice in the misfortune of others,” he said.
