The Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI) will set up a centre to provide technical and support services to Saudi businessmen in preparation for the Kingdom’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Abdul Rahman Al-Kanhal, Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs at CSCCI, said that the centre would be set up early next year. Various consultants were invited to offer tenders. Feasibility studies for the project will be conducted by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran. The feasibility studies are expected to be completed within five months, according to a report published today by Arab News.
Al-Kanhal said that the centre, which will function under the Council’s administration, will give technical and technical-related support to agricultural, industrial, commercial and other businesses. “The centre will also set up training programs where experts from the WTO will address participants. It will provide Arabic translations of WTO documents and other reference material. At present there is an awareness gap in the Saudi business community on activities of the WTO and how it can help to resolve their various problems. We want to bridge this gap through the service centre by organizing seminars and conferences,” Al-Kanhal said.
