04Jul2004 Two militants die as a result of injuries sustained in Riyadh shootout

Jeddah, 4th July 2004

An official source at the Interior Ministry announced that investigating authorities identified two men on the list of the Kingdom’s most-wanted dead as a result of injuries sustained in the Riyadh shootout on 22/2/1425H. The two militants were Rakan bin Mohsin Al-Saikhan and Nasser bin Rashid Al-Rashid. They died because they were not provided with adequate medical care by their fellow militants in refuge following the shootout.

Al-Saikhan was shot in the chest. Militants transferred him to a house under repair in Al-Silay suburb and then another site in Al-Suwaidi suburb. Since no medical care was provided to him, Al-Saikhan died the day following the incident and was buried in an unknown location under supervision of Abdul Aziz Al-Muqrin. Security forces arrested three individuals involved with the transfer of Al-Saikhan between the two sites. One of the militants participating in the transfer was a man operating under the name Awad Al-Awad, who was killed on Thursday 13/5/1425H.

Nasser bin Rashid Al-Rashid had sustained serious leg injuries which resulted in gangrene. One of his accomplices amputated his leg using an electric saw and Al-Rashid died due to this. The militant associates buried him and hid his grave. Five individuals were arrested in this connection. Security officials are questioning the five men to identify the burial site.
