Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali described his six-day visit to Saudi Arabia as “highly productive.”
”My meetings with the Saudi leadership reflected the firm relationship between the two countries and continuing, close consultation on issues of mutual concern,” Jamali told a news conference at Chaklala Air Base following his return from Saudi Arabia on Friday.
Jamali said that the two sides discussed a wide-range of issues including measures to enhance trade and economic ties, the fight against terrorism, and stabilising the situation in Iraq and South Asia.
The Prime Minister said that the Saudi leadership expressed support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in the region. “The Saudi leaders stressed their support for the measures we have implemented to promote peace and reconciliation with India, and expressed hope that this wise policy will result in the settlement of all outstanding issues, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute,” Jamali said.
Jamali said that he held substantive talks with Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz on further strengthening bilateral relations. “We reviewed measures to enhance our bilateral relationship, particularly trade, economic and investment ties,” Jamali said. He noted that a high level Saudi delegation of public and private sector representatives, led by the Minister of Commerce, will visit Pakistan in near future to explore means of boosting bilateral trade and investment.
Jamali said that the two sides discussed a wide-range of regional and international issues of concern, particularly the current challenges confronting the Muslim world.
During the visit, the Prime Minister conducted consultations with Saudi Interior Minister Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, which reviewed bilateral ties and steps to enhance security cooperation,” Jamali said.
