20May2004 Four wanted militants killed in shootout

Riyadh, 20th May 2004

Four Saudi militants and one policeman were killed and one militant and two security officials were injured in a shootout between Saudi security forces and a group of militant suspects in Buraidah Region today.

An official source at the Interior Ministry said that at 2.30pm on Thursday 20 May 2004, a security forces patrol located five militant suspects taking refuge in a rest house in Khudairah, a village in Buraidah Region. Realizing that they had been surrounded by the security force patrol, the militant suspects began firing machine guns at the men, who responded with return fire.

Four suspects and a policeman were killed and one militant and two policemen were injured. Security authorities found weapons and ammunition when they searched of the site.

A further announcement will be made following investigations.
