Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, on Monday chaired the Cabinet’s weekly meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah.
At the outset of the meeting, on behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz and on his own behalf, the Crown Prince expressed his thanks and appreciation to the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and their representatives for their achievements during deliberations at the sixth consultation meeting hosted by the Kingdom on Sunday.
The Crown Prince stressed the keenness of all GCC leaders to promote progress and prosperity for member countries and their peoples and for all Arab and Islamic countries. He said that the leaders reviewed the Council’s progress and cooperation during recent years and measures to achieve the ambitions and aspirations of GCC citizens in political, economic, social and all fields.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the session, Minister of Culture and Information Dr Fouad bin Abdulsalam Al-Farsy said that the Cabinet reviewed the decision of the United States of America to impose sanctions on Syria. The Cabinet said that the decision will further complicate the situation in the Middle East and does not promote stability in the region, but will lead to exacerbated tensions and feelings of injustice among Arabs, particularly in the light of continued Israeli aggression and violations of human rights of the Palestinian people and of international laws. The acts of Israel make requisite the imposition of sanctions by the international community.
The Cabinet reviewed recent developments in regional and international arenas and talks held in the past week between Saudi and foreign officials. Consultations discussed means to promote stability and security for the world, and particularly in Palestine and Iraq.
The Cabinet then items on its domestic agenda and issued the following decisions:
The Cabinet advised governmental authorities, particularly those which chair joint Saudi-foreign committees, strongly to adhere to regulations governing the establishment of joint committees in accordance with Cabinet resolution 83, dated 19/5/1420H.
The Cabinet agreed to implement a resolution agreed upon at the 24th GCC summit meeting held in Kuwait last December to establish the GCC customs data base centre at the GCC headquarters in Riyadh.
The Council of Ministers approved the appointment of Fahd bin Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Saif, Member of the Investigations and General Prosecution Commission, as Director General of the Office of the Interior Minister; Eng. Mohammed bin Wasl Allah bin Zia’ar Al-Harbi as Director General of the Real Estate Development Fund; and Eng.
