A major flower-design festival, the Zanabig Floral Design Contest, considered the most prestigious floral event held in the Arab world, will be held in Riyadh on 18 February. The event is being held in the Kingdom to promote both Saudi-grown and imported flowers.
The Netherlands, which represents 70% of the world’s floral trade, will play a large part in the event, Dutch Ambassador Paul Lagendijk said.
In a report published today, Arab News said that the Dutch Embassy and a local Saudi company, Al-Zanabig International Trade Establishment, are the main sponsors of the event.
The contest is intended to promote sales of flowers in the region, particularly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Prominent flower companies, nurseries and designers from various countries of the Arab world will participate in the event, Lagendijk said. Twelve finalists from Arab countries will compete to create five spectacular flower arrangements on the inaugural day of the event. The jury for the contest consists of experts in flowers and flower arrangements from Holland and Saudi Arabia, and will be chaired by the world-renowned flower arranger Cees van Dijk, who will be flown in especially for the event by the Flower Council of Holland. Lagedijk said that the winners will be presented with awards on 19 February and the flower show will be open to the general public at Tuwaiq Palace in Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter on 20 February from 4 - 10pm.
