Microsoft is seeking to expand its operations in Saudi Arabia. The move follows a recent meeting between Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal, according to a Kingdom-Holding Company press release.
Prince Al-Waleed made the proposal for expansion at a dinner hosted by Gates at his Bellevue, Washington, home. Gates welcomed the proposal, and arranged a follow-up meeting with General Manager of Microsoft Arabia Dr Khaled Al-Dhaher, which probed areas of potential cooperation, the press release said.
In addition to expanding information technology, it was agreed that Kingdom-Holding Company and Microsoft Arabia would pool resources to fund selected humanitarian projects in Saudi Arabia.
Gates and Prince Al-Waleed have previously pledged donations to a number of charities including the Carter Centre’s African programs.
Gates and Al-Waleed also discussed their investments in the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and agreed to nominate representatives to work closely on potential deals.
