The number of pilgrims who left Makkah for Madinah and Jeddah by 5 February 2004 amounted to 177,635.
The pilgrims were transported from Makkah to the two cities by 2,906 buses: 2,002 transporting pilgrims to Madinah, and 904 to Jeddah.
Assistant Director General of the Hajj Ministry branch in Makkah Eng. Khalid Abu Naji said that pilgrims had departed Makkah for Madinah and Jeddah in accordance with the departure program organised by the relevant authorities. He noted that the program took place smoothly and in good time. “The departing pilgrims were given a gift from the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, some Islamic booklets and cassettes, photographs of the Two Holy Mosques and Zamzam water,” he added.
Abu Naji said that during this year’s Hajj season, 14,188,687 cubic-litres of Zamzam water were distributed to pilgrims. The number of pilgrim missions for the Hajj season amounted to 2,802, and the number of tourism companies through which pilgrims came to the Kingdom amounted to 1,456.
