20Jan2004 Address by Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz on water issues

Paris, 20th January 2004

Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz, President of the Arab Gulf Program for United Nations Developmental Organizations (AGFUND) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Special Envoy for Water, stressed that water is the most important and dangerous issue that affects the future of the world and the welfare and prosperity of future generations.

In a speech at the concluding session of the International Year for Fresh Water Conference today, Prince Talal pointed out that AGFUND has donated over $31 million to thirty-two water projects worldwide.

Prince Talal expressed his hope that an Arab version of the international report on the development of water will be issued. The Prince called on member states to unify efforts and boost contributions to the discovery of effective means to confront the problem of water shortage.
