05Jan2004 Foreign airline companies to carry pilgrims to Madinah Airport

Madinah, 5th January 2004

Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General, approved a decision allowing foreign aviation companies to carry pilgrims to Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz Airport in Madinah from the various countries of the world.

Eng. Abdelfattah bin Mohammed Ata, Director General of Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz Airport, said that this development reflects the keenness of Prince Sultan to enhance the ease and comfort of Hajj for pilgrims.

He noted that Madinah Airport received over 30,000 pilgrims on 90 flights from the various parts of the world between 27 December 2003 and 5 January 2004. “The Airport receives between 15 and 30 flights per day,” he said, noting that the number of pilgrims arriving at the airport will steadily increase until 26 January 2004. He predicted that the airport would receive approximately 800 flights from various countries, carrying over 250,000 pilgrims, by 26 January.
