Khalid Abdulqoddous's last-minute goal kept the hopes of Kuwait alive in the ongoing 16th Gulf Soccer Cup, giving the host team an invaluable draw with Saudi Arabia. Mohammed Alshalhoub had scored in the 32nd minute of the second half.
With this result Saudi Arabia still tops the table with eight points, followed by Bahrain (seven points), Oman and Kuwait (five for each), UAE (four), Qatar (three) and Yemen, which makes its debut at the Gulf soccer tournament, with only one point.
Addressing the Saudi players following the match, Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, President of Youth Welfare of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, denied reports that there were plans to cancel the Gulf Soccer Championship. Instead, he paid tribute to the previous and current competition, saying it had contributed to recent achievements of Arab Gulf teams in the Asian and international competitions.
