31Dec2003 National Forum for Intellectual Dialogue ends session

Makkah, 31 December, 2003

The Second National Forum for Intellectual Dialogue, organized by King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue (KACND), wrapped up in the Holy City of Makkah today.

The First National Forum for Intellectual Dialogue was held in Riyadh from 15 - 18 June 2003.

Today's event held five-day deliberations including opening and closing ceremonies to secure transparency and logic, said Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Mua'mmar, the Secretary General of KACND. During closed-door sessions, sixty specialists and experts from several national organizations and bodies discussed the issue of "extremism and moderation: a comprehensive approach". In a statement to the media, Mua'mmar said the participants underlined the importance of the timing and place of this Forum. They recalled that the recent series of explosions have defamed the profile of Islam in the west, mounting pressure on our Ulema to clarify the image of our religion for non-Muslims. The participants studied the legal, psychological, social, economical, political and educational aspects related to the extremist thinking and approach.

The Forum's final communiqué and recommendations will be submitted to Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of National Guard, next Saturday.
