The Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Foundation has begun reviewing possible sites across the Kingdom for housing the poor, following directives of the Crown Prince to spend SR200 million on emergency housing, according to a report in Okaz newspaper.
Yusuf Al-Othaimin, Secretary General of the Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Foundation, said that the Foundation is meeting with the mayors of Saudi cities to evaluate how the Foundation can assist their poor districts.
The Foundation hopes to improve the lives of poor Saudis by repairing or replacing dilapidated homes that cannot be rehabilitated or are close to collapse, according to Al-Othaimin.
Districts where the Foundation will help rebuild must be capable of future growth and have vital services, including water, electricity, and telephone provision.
Foundation executives recently met with the Mayor of Riyadh and officials of other cities to see which poor districts can benefit from the Crown Prince’s initiative.
Al-Othaimin said that the Foundation will coordinate with Higher Authorities for the Development of Regions to monitor growth and development of the poorer districts aided by this initiative. “The Foundation will continue its work until every Saudi has a suitable home,” he added.
The Crown Prince’s directives to assist poor Saudis with housing follows earlier directives allocating SR100 million to build urgent residence for the poor in villages and rural areas of six regions.
