Arni Walter will on Saturday assume his position as the first Secretary General of the Riyadh-based International Energy Forum.
The permanent General Secretariat was established in response to the proposal submitted by Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, during inauguration of the 7th International Energy Forum in Riyadh on 17 November 2000.
Arni Walter was elected for the position by the Forum’s Executive Council, which comprises representatives of fifteen states and organizations, at a meeting in Riyadh on 11 May 2003. Mr Walter has previously occupied the position of Norwegian Ambassador to Austria, envoy to several international organizations, including the International Energy Agency, and Special Advisor to the Norwegian Premier.
