11Dec2003 Festival for care of the handicapped

Riyadh, 11th December 2003

Under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, will inaugurate the first festival for care of the handicapped next week, which is to be organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Dr Ali Al-Namlah, noted that participants of the three-day festival will review a number of topics pertaining to disability.

Dr Al-Namlah hailed the great efforts exerted by Saudi authorities to enhance services for the handicapped, and said that there are now twenty-six handicapped centres throughout the Kingdom, in addition to twelve centres for rehabilitation of the handicapped. He pointed that over 86,000 handicapped people receive financial assistance, which amounts to over SR388 million, from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
