Dr Abdullah Al-Turki, Secretary General of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), urged jurisprudence councils, ‘Ifta’ centres, and Ulema (religious scholars) in the Muslim world carefully to study and debate current issues of concern for Muslims.
Dr Al-Turki reiterated the keenness of the Islamic Jurisprudence Council, an affiliate of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), to enhance cooperation among various Fatwa (religious opinion) Councils in the Muslim world and countries with Muslim minorities.
“It is necessary to explain, from an Islamic point of view, requirements for relations among members of society and of the individual with society and the state, and the importance of obedience to rulers,” he said.
Dr Al-Turki said that the 17th session of the Islamic Jurisprudence Council, which is due to be held in Makkah under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz next week, will discuss papers pertaining to deviant thought and misconceptions of Islam. “Members of the Islamic Jurisprudence Council will review issues related to the causes and impact of terrorist acts perpetrated in some Muslim countries,” he said.
Dr Al-Turki urged officials responsible for educational curricula at schools and universities to incorporate in instruction the Fatwas (religious rulings) issued by Jurisprudence Councils that clarify the stance of Islam vis-à-vis terrorism and extremism.
