A 1,750-kilometre super highway will connect all six states of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) within the next two years, according to a report in Al-Iqtisadiyya newspaper.
Abdullah Al-Muqbel, Undersecretary for Highways at the Saudi Ministry of Transport, told Al-Iqtisadiyya following the recent GCC Highway Conference in Bahrain, that the dual-lane super highway will stretch from Kuwait to Oman and will use the King Fahd Bridge linking Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to facilitate customs clearance.
During the Highway Conference, one hundred participants discussed the lessons learned from the King Fahd Bridge, the importance of having more super highways connecting GCC countries, international experiences in this field, and the costs involved in integrating highway networks and traffic.
