03Dec2003 Special Care Centres shelter 6,500 people with disabilities

Riyadh, 3rd December 2003

The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Dr Ali Bin Ibrahim Al-Namlah, said that the first festival for care of the handicapped, scheduled for 16 December, is aimed to educate citizens about various disabilities and the rights and duties of the handicapped.

The Higher Council for the Affairs of the Handicapped comprises representatives of all sectors related to service of the handicapped. “All governmental and non-governmental charitable organizations engaged in providing services and facilities for the handicapped will work under the Council,” he said.

Dr Al-Namlah reiterated the keenness of the Saudi Government to provide the best possible services and facilities for handicapped people, and said that the Kingdom’s Special Care Centres For the Handicapped now shelter over 6,500 people with disabilities.
