02Dec2003 Saudi cultural week opened in Rabat

Rabat, 2nd December 2003

Prince Rasheed on Monday opened a Saudi cultural week, organized under the patronage of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, on the occasion of Rabat being designated the capital of Arab culture for the year 2003.

Upon arrival at the venue, Prince Rasheed was welcomed by the Saudi Ambassador to Morocco, Dr Abdul Aziz Khoja, and a number of senior officials.

After opening the cultural week, Prince Rasheed toured the exhibition organized on the sidelines of current festivities celebrating the recognition of Rabat as capital of Arab culture for 2003. The Prince was briefed on exhibits, including manuscripts, drawings and antiquities.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saleh bin Ahmad bin Naser, the Saudi Undersecretary of Youth Welfare, warned against the menace of extremism and terrorism, saying that Islamic culture is characterized by tolerance and openness. Dr bin Naser highlighted the great attention accorded by the Saudi leadership to culture.

The function was attended by Dr Fahd Al-Harethi and Dr Othman Al-Rawaf, members of the Kingdom’s Shoura (consultative) Council, and a number of senior officials.
