29Nov2003 King Fahd orders amendment of articles of Shoura Council system

Jeddah, 29th November 2003

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz ordered the amendment of two articles of the Shoura Council System as follows:

Article 17 will be amended to read: resolutions of the Shoura Council will be forwarded to the King, who will decide what to transfer to the Cabinet. If the Cabinet and the Shoura Council concur, the resolution will be issued after ratification by the King; otherwise, the resolution will be returned to the Shoura Council for debate, before the issue is submitted to the King who will decide whether to implement the resolution.

Article 23 of the Shoura Council will be amended to read: The Shoura Council can propose a new bill or propose an amendment of a regulation in force and discuss those proposals in Council meetings. The Chairman of the Council should forward the Council’s proposals to the King.

The above amendments will be published in the official gazette, and will be effective from the day of publication.
