28Nov2003 Prince Sultan patronises opening of kidney centre and eye hospital

Al-Ihsa, Saudi Arabia, 28th November 2003

Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General, today patronized the opening ceremony of Al-Jabr Kidney Centre, an affiliate of King Fahd Hospital in Al-Hafuf, and Al-Jabr Hospital for Eye Treatment and ENT in Al-Ihsa province.

At the venue of the Kidney Centre, Prince Sultan was received by Prince Mohammad bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of the Eastern Region, and senior civil and military officials.

Upon arrival, Prince Sultan unveiled the plaque, laid the foundation stone of the Centre and listened to a briefing on the project, which was funded by the sons of Sheikh Hamad Al-Jabr at a total cost of SR13 million.

Prince Sultan then visited the Eye and ENT hospital, which was also funded by the sons of Sheikh Hamad Al-Jabr, costing SR35 million. Upon arrival, Prince Sultan followed the same ceremonial procedure to open the hospital, which was attended by Prince Bandar bin Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, a number of princes, ministers, senior civil and military officials, and a group of citizens.

The Minister of Health, Dr Hamad Al-Mane’, said in a statement following the event that no patient requiring kidney, eye or ENT treatment would need to be transferred to hospitals in Dhahran, Dammam or Riyadh, following the opening of the new specialist hospitals.

In response to a question, the Minister denied reports that there has been a resurgence of rift-valley fever in Jazan Region, saying that no single case of the disease has been reported within the past two years.
