Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, 27th November 2003

Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General, on Wednesday visited the new headquarters of Tabuk Region Governorate, which has been constructed at a total cost of over SR170 million.

During the visit, Prince Sultan met members of Tabuk Region’s council and other local councils. In a speech during the reception, Prince Sultan said that the system of regional councils, which was established several years ago by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, shows the confidence placed in citizens by the Kingdom’s leadership. He said that members of regional and local councils can notify the region’s governor of any matter of concern, which will be conveyed to the Interior Minister.

Prince Sultan said that the Saudi Government allocates a budget to regional councils, and is seeking to boost their role in administering local projects and programs to support citizens and provide local facilities. He said that the forthcoming elections for municipal councils will be a positive step in support of regional governors, local councils and Saudi citizens.

Prince Fahd bin Sultan, the Governor of Tabuk Region, thanked Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz for inaugurating a number of projects in Tabuk Region and for sharing in Eid Al-Fitr celebrations with the people of the region.
