21Oct2003 ARABSAT signs contract for satellite launch

Riyadh, 21st October 2003

Arab Satellite Communications Organization (ARABSAT) on Tuesday held a signing ceremony of a contract on the manufacture and launch of the 4th generation of ARABSAT satellites.

The ceremony was attended by Dr Fouad bin Abdulsalam Al-Farsy, the Minister of Culture and Information, and Engineer Mohammed Jameel bin Ahmed Mulla, the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology.

The contract was signed between ARABSAT and Astrium Company, and Astrium and International Launch Services (ILS). A speech ceremony was held on the occasion.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology noted that the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz has been keen to support ARABSAT since its foundation. He pointed out that the Kingdom is the biggest shareholder in the Riyadh-based organization - with 36% of shares, and chairs its Board of Directors.

Dr Al-Farsy noted that the 4th news channel would begin transmission imminently. He thanked ARABSAT for its continued efforts to improve services provided for the Ministry of Culture and Information.
